We have an update to share about House of Hope and a funding extension that will keep it open during the winter months.

Our much-valued service will continue our lease through the end of March 2027, with operations until January. The funding extension, made possible through commitments from the Health and Homelessness Fund for Change and the City of London, provides valuable time for London Cares and its partners to complete individualized transition planning for every resident.

Every resident at House of Hope has unique health, mental health, addiction and housing needs. We do not yet have homes identified for all residents. Moving people successfully into permanent housing requires careful planning, strong partnerships and continued access to the supports that have helped them stabilize. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

When London Cares announced earlier this year that House of Hope would close following the end of its funding arrangement, our commitment was clear: to work alongside residents, health-care providers, housing organizations and community partners to find the best possible next step for every person living there.

Today’s announcement gives us more time to do that work well. It does not eliminate the challenge ahead, and the significant work that remains before House of Hope ultimately closes.

From the beginning, House of Hope demonstrated what is possible when housing is paired with 24-hour wraparound supports for people experiencing chronic homelessness with complex needs.

Residents found stability. Health outcomes improved. People connected with care. Lives were saved. The funding extension reinforces what we have said throughout this process: House of Hope worked.

It worked because people were treated with compassion and dignity. It worked because organizations across London worked together. And it worked because our community chose to invest in people.

London Cares is grateful to the Health and Homelessness Fund for Change donor family, the London Community Foundation, the City of London, our health-care and housing partners, and the many organizations and individuals who have supported House of Hope.

We also recognize our dedicated staff, whose compassion, professionalism and commitment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of residents every day.

As we move into this next phase, our focus remains unchanged.

We will continue working with our partners to help every House of Hope resident move forward with dignity, stability and the supports they need.
